I have a system that has a tiem warner box which equals a ground hum through the seakers, especially the sub.. We usually slap a Jensen Transformers VRD-1FF on the line in to the cable box and it solves the problem but this time when I did it, the hum went away but so did all the channels above 80.. WTF? Anyone seen this or have an explaination and a resolution for me?

Place one on the audio outputs and not the cable input. This solves two problems instead of one and is the best way to go. You may also use a toslink to your receiver, but you may get mixed results on the audio feed. Works if you are in a pinch.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Well, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with a fatal ground loop with Time-Warner. Heck, the problem is so bad in my system that I can get an arc from the cable to any of my components (when the cable is within 1/2 an inch). I tried GotGames route but it didn't help - the loop followed through any connection. I Blew on of my amps and popped the fuse a couple of times on my sub.
I finally grabbed a basic cable isolater from MCM and it did the trick - I get an occasional buzz when watching TV but it's very quiet when it does come up. Cable company can't do anything because it's a very old MUD and they didn't run the original wiring.

Good Luck!

Jeff

Did you get an old one? The old ones had some problem with bandwidth but the new ones should be fine. By new I mean about two years or more now.

call Jensen directly, they are great people to work with and the WILL follow through with return calls, and hang in to help until the issue is resolved...one of the few shining stars in the A/V world for tech support, Lutron being another that comes to mind...all others have been hit or miss with me.

Update: I had a tech take it home to try on his time warner box and he was able to get all the signals.. so it must have something to do with the DVR cable box. Neither had HD the customer had the new DVR box and my tech has a standard box.

You may want to check for AC voltage on your cable line. I had one at a clients home that had nearly 90 volts riding on the cable line from a bad TWC amplifier out on the street. You could touch the center conductor and shield to the base of a 100 watt bulb and light it up! Can be very hazardous to components.
